Paulina Lake/Peak

It is a beautiful place. From Portland, you can be there in 3 hours. You can plan it as a single-day trip or a 2-day trip. Paulina Lake is one of the twin crater lakes in Newberry Crater, Central Oregon. It is located 6,331 feet above sea level in the Newberry National Volcanic Monument near La Pine. From the main road (Paulina lake road) to the peak at 7,989 ft, there is a 1-mile gravel winding road. That is an enjoyable drive.  Just put the car in lower gears and climb up/down. We stayed at a private camping place near East Paulina lake. (https://www.hipcamp.com/oregon/david-s-s-land-13/experience-heaven). It is a well-maintained, clean campground. There are around 10 tent sites and 2 yurts here.  Kayaks/Canoes/life jackets are free to use. I used a small canoe when it was windy, and the water was a bit turbulent and fell in the water. Most of the time, the water is calm. But paddle close to the shore, as we do in any other lake. At this time of the season, temp at night will go down to 40s, because we are camping at 6500 ft. A good sleeping bag can be very useful. Other nearby attractions: The rest of the Sun River /Bend attractions, and crater Lake.

It was our final stop in our one-week trip around the eastern/central Oregon trip. We spent two nights here, camping by the lakeside.
